You may want to bring a beach towel to place under your mat.

yoga

Classes last approximately 60 minutes.  Each class begins with an adequate warm-up to prepare the body for movement and ends with a short guided meditation to surrender the body and quiet the mind.   More information about the yoga classes can be found on the about us page.

Please bring your own mat, a towel and water.   You are encouraged to bring a blanket, block, strap or anything that helps you in your practice.    Make sure that you wear comfortable clothes and practice on an empty stomach (try not to eat at least 2 hours before class).

pilates

Pilates is a unique system of stabilizing, strengthening, and stretching exercises developed over 90 years ago by Joseph H. Pilates. This mat class will help to improve overall strength, flexibility, stability, balance, coordination and concentration.

The Pilates Method represents a unique approach to exercise that develops body awareness, improving and changing the body's postural and alignment habits and increasing flexibility and ease of movement.

"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. In order to achieve happiness, it is imperative to gain mastery of your body. If at the age of 30 you are stiff and out of shape, you are old. If at 60 you are supple and strong then you are young."

                                                   - Joseph Hubertus Pilates

Flow

This is a medium-paced class designed to challenge strength and balance, cultivate flexibility & develop body awareness.  The body is in motion however some of the poses will be held for several breaths so that you may truly feel the energy of the body.  Modifications are always offered for less experienced students so if you are new to Yoga you will have plenty of guidance. Flow works to open the body up and challenge you mentally, physically and spiritually.

Beginners (5 week intervals - information is repeated every 5 weeks so you can join in at any time)

If you have never taken yoga or only have a few classes under your belt, this is the class for you. We gently guide you through postures that are modified for beginners while allowing you to find the comfort zone within your practice.

Tuesday's focus is on the more rigorous poses (sun salutations, balance, twisting, backbends and inversions) while Thursday's classes are geared toward the more gentle side of Yoga working to open the hips and spine. Combining both classes every week you will learn how to move the body with your new-found breath and begin to feel balanced and refreshed.

Gentle/Restorative  (NOT CURRENTLY ON SCHEDULE)

Gentle Yoga combines gentle movements with breath. These classes are perfect for beginners and pregnant students as well as people with specific limitations and those recovering from injury. We spend a greater amount of time in the more restorative postures, longer meditation and complete relaxation with deep healing. If you enjoy the softer side of Yoga this is a great class for you.

Slow Flow

This is the perfect addition to the Beginner’s class schedule.  This class will guide you through a slower flow of strengthening and restorative postures with an emphasis on breath and alignment. This is also a great class if you are pregnant or just want to slow things down a little!  Every class will be different as we explore using props such as blocks, straps and stability balls to improve body posture and the general feeling of particular poses.

Strength

Jessica uses her background in personal training and yoga instruction to create challenging sequences in her classes.  Her strength class will help to define and create length in the muscle and a calm sense of focus as you work your way through difficult poses.  There is still flow between the postures but be prepared to hold some poses for a little longer to help the body develop strength.  She offers modifications for less experienced students so all are welcome.

Tuesday AM Pilates

Join Lisa for Pilates on Wednesdays at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 9:00 am... see above for Pilates description.

Thursday AM Piyo

Lisa is a certified with Yogafit and registered with Yoga Alliance with the 200 hour certification. Yogafit’s style of yoga is a vinyasa flow that will fit everyone’s fitness level with the thought that by feeling and monitoring each moment you are able to move freely and adjust to what your body needs. As she moves you through Sun Salutations and postures you will breathe, sweat, lengthen, open and feel. Using the breath as a bridge between the mind and the body you will energize the body and calm the mind.

Piyo is the best of both worlds. Combining Sun Salutations with the power of Pilates brings another level of fitness to the mind/body classes. Moving mindfully with the goal of a total body workout with the awareness of being able to modify or take breaks as often as needed. This class is also based on the idea that it can be tailored to every BODY to ensure the safety of the joints and spine. Be prepared to sweat and enjoy moving your body!

Note: Practicing yoga first thing in the morning is an absolutely wonderful way to start your day and we hope you are able to fit this time into your schedule.

The room is heated to 80 degrees to allow for deeper stretching.  This is still much cooler than your own body temperature and should enhance rather than interfere with your practice.
